ফিফার এই মুহুর্তের র‍্যাংকিং অনুযায়ী ব্রাজিল ছয়ে আর মরক্কো সাতে! তাই দলের ভিত্তিতে বলতেই পারা যায় যে এই খেলাটা একটি হাড্ডাহাড্ভি লড়াইয়ের চেহারা নেবে। আসলে এবারের বিশ্বকাপের গ্রুপ লিগে এটাই একমাত্র খেলা যেটাতে ফিফার ক্রমতালিকায় থাকা প্রথম দশের দুটি দল নিজেদের মধ্যে খেলছে!

অনিবার্যভাবে এই ম্যাচটা তাই অনেকেই মুখিয়ে থাকবে দেখার। তাই খেলাটা শুধুমাত্র শারীরিক দক্ষতার মধ্যেই সীমিত নয়, লড়াইটা বেশ অনেকটাই স্নায়বিক হতে বাধ্য!

তাই ব্রাজিলের অন্ধ সাপোর্টার হলেও বলব, ঠিক এই জায়গাটাতে ম্যাচে মরক্কো জিতে গেল। ম্যাচ শুরুর প্রথম থেকেই যে আক্রমণাতক ভঙ্গিতে ব্রাজিলকে চেপে ধরেছিল মরক্কো যে বেশ অনেকক্ষণ ল্যাটিন আমেরিকার দলটি নিজেদের হাফেই থেকে যাচ্ছিল।

মরক্কোর দলটাকে বলা হয় অ্যাটলাস লায়নস। খেলাটাতে এই সিংহদের দাপট সাম্বার ছন্দটাকে যথেষ্ট মৃয়মান করে দিল। যেভাবে তারা ব্রাজিলকে নিজেদের অর্ধেই ব্যাকপাস করতে বাধ্য করাচ্ছিল যে ভয় হচ্ছিল কখন না তাদের গোলকিপার অ্যালিসন নিজের এত পাস রিসিভ করতে করতে অভ্যাসের বসে নিজের গোলেই না ব্যাকপাস করে ফেলে!

যাই হোক, এরকম কিছু কাণ্ড হয়নি, কিন্তু ব্রাজিলের খেলা একটুও মন ভারতে পারেনি অবশ্যই। ছোটো ব্যাকপাস তো তাও যার কাছে যাওয়ার যাচ্ছিল। কিন্তু লং পাসগুলো? কি বিচ্ছিরিভাবে দিকভ্রান্ত লাগছিল। জানিনা এদের আস্তিনের তলায় কি তাস আছে, এরকম খেললে কিন্তু ভবিষ্যতে যথেষ্ট চাপ! তার উপর ফাউলের ছড়াছড়ি। এবারের দলটাকে কিন্তু এখনও পর্যন্ত চোখে পড়ার মতো ছন্নছাড়া লাগছে।

অন্যদিকে মরক্কো এক অসাধারন ভারসাম্যে ভরা খেলা উপহার দিল। তাদের গোলটা তো এককথায় অনবদ্য। জীবনের প্রথম বিশ্বকাপের প্রথম ম্যাচে সাইবারির গোলটা যেকোনো ফুটবলারের স্বপ্নের গোল হবে। এরকম বুদ্ধিদীপ্ত গোলের একমাত্র কাছাকাছি তকমা হচ্ছে পানেনকা শট্, যদিও এই বিশেষ উপমাটা পেনাল্টির ক্ষেত্রেই বেশি প্রযোজ্য!

তবে ব্রাজিলের গোলটাও অসাধারন লেগেছে। নিজের পঞ্চাশতম আন্তর্জাতিক ম্যাচে ভিনিসিয়াস জুনিয়র এই গোলটা দিয়ে ব্রাজিলের উপর ভরসাটাকে একেবারে কমতে দিল না, মানতে হবে! তার সাথে Raphinha দেখাল গোলের জন্য বল বানানোর কৌশল। এই দুটোই ব্রাজিলভক্ত হিসেবে পাওনা। বাকি যা থাকে তো সময় বলবে!

মার্কিনীদের করা দ্বিতীয় গোলটাও নাকচ হয়ে গেল..... offside বলে!

কিন্তু আসল দ্বিতীয় গোল, যেটা ওই নাকচ হওয়া গোলটির গোলদাতা, ব্যালোগানই করলেন, তার স্মৃতি ম্লান হয়ে যাবে গোলটার পিছনে করা ক্রিশ্চিয়ান পুলিসিকের চমকদার assist দেখে। একেই বোধহয় বাংলায় মাইনাস করা বলা হয় খেলাতে। এই গোলটির কারিগর, পুলিসিক, দলটির ক্যাপ্টেন, এবং প্রকৃতই ফ্যানেদের দেওয়া Captain America উপাধির যোগ্য বাহক!

অবশ্য ব্যালোগান এরপরে প্রথমার্ধের ইনজুরি টাইমে আরেকটি গোল করেন এবং সেটিও just awesome.

মার্কিনীরা নিজের দেশে বিশ্বকাপ হলে প্রায় অপ্রতিরোধ্য হয় ওঠে। এই কথাটা ব্রাজিল হাড়ে হাড়ে বুঝেছিল ১৯৯৪ সালে। আমেরিকাতে অনুষ্ঠিত বিশ্বকাপ ব্রাজিল জিতেছিল ঠিকই, কিন্তু ফাইনালে ওঠার পথের প্রথম নক আউট ম্যাচটা বের করতে প্রচণ্ড চাপে পড়েছিল আমেরিকা দলটার কাছে! এবার আমার ধারনা এই দলটা এবার যে চ্যালেঞ্জটা দিচ্ছে, তাকে হালকাভাবে নিলে প্রতিপক্ষরা অবশ্যই ভুল করবে।

আরেকটা ভুল অনেকেই এবারের বিশ্বকাপে করলে চাপে পড়বে - মাঠের মধ্যে বেশি নাটক করলে! এবার যদি কোনো প্লেয়ার দুমদাম পড়ে যায়, এই ব্যাপারটা বিচার করার জন্য জম্পেশ ব্যবস্থা আছে। মাঠে এবার গুছিয়ে টিভির ব্যবস্থা আছে রেফারির জন্য, তিনি নাটক ঘটলে দেখবেন এবং মনে করলে, না না অস্কার নয়, হলদে, লাল কার্ড দেখিয়ে অভিনেতাকে পুরস্কৃত করবেন সাথে সাথে। এই ম্যাচটা তাই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কারণ এতেই কেউ প্রথমবারের জন্য mistaken identity বিভাগে হলুদ কার্ড দেখল। প্যারাগুয়ের আগুয়ান মিগুয়েল আলমির্ন পড়ে গেলেন খেলা চলতে চলতে। রেফারি ভাবলেন বোধহয় টিম রিম ফাউল করেছেন পাশ থেকে। তিনি রিমকে হলুদ কার্ড দেখালেন সঙ্গে সঙ্গে। কিন্তু বাদ সাধল প্রযুক্তি! টিভিতে রেফারি বুঝতে পারলেন পড়ে যাওয়াটা নাটক ছিল। পরক্ষণেই রিমের শাস্তি নাকচ আর প্যারাগুয়ের অভিনেতাটির হলুদ কার্ড।

একইদিনে গোল নাকচ, শাস্তি নাকচ। প্রযুক্তির কাছে খেলা, গতি হয়তো খানিক থমকে যাচ্ছে, কিন্তু ন্যায়টা যে হচ্ছে, এটাই আমার কাছে দারুণ ব্যাপার।

তাই সাবধান, ময়দানটা কিন্তু খেলার।

খেলাটাই স্টেজ মাতাবে, অভিনয় করলে শুধু ঠকবে।

মেক্সিকান ওয়েভ তো আমরা খেলার মাঠে গ্যালারিতে দেখি। সাউথ আফ্রিকার ফুটবল দলটা দেখল খেলার মাঠে, আর সেই ঢেউয়ের দাপটে স্রেফ যেন ভেসে গেল তারা! সাথে অবশ্য দোসর ছিল কিছু বিশ্রি ফাউলের যোগ, যার বদান্যতায় নিট্ ফল মেক্সিকোর ২ গোল আর সাউথ আফ্রিকার ২টো রেড কার্ড। অবশ্য বাজে ফাউল করার ছোঁয়াচ থেকে মেক্সিকো দলটাও শেষমেশ বাঁচতে পারেনি। তাই তারাও ইনজুরি টাইমে ১টা রেড কার্ড দেখে কিছুটা সান্ত্বনা পেল বইকি।

খেলাটার ফল অবশ্য মেক্সিকোর পক্ষে ৪ গোলও হতে পারত, কিন্তু হলো না সাউথ আফ্রিকার অধিনায়ক ও দলটার গোলরক্ষক, উইলিয়ামসের কিছু দুর্দান্ত সেভের কারনে। তাই কুইনোনেসের প্রথম গোলটার পর জিমেনেজকেও দ্বিতীয়ার্ধে করা ১টা গোলেই সন্তুষ্ট থাকতে হল। তবে ২০২৬ বিশ্বকাপের প্রথম ম্যাচে মেক্সিকো মন জয় করে নিলেও সাউথ আফ্রিকার খেলার ধরনটা খানিক বদলাতে না পারলে তাদের সমর্থকদের হতাশ হওয়াটা অবশ্যম্ভাবী! এই খেলাটাতে দ্বিতীয়ার্ধে মাঠে ছিলেন এই বিশ্বকাপের সর্বকনিষ্ঠ প্লেয়ার, মেক্সিকোর ১৭ বছরের একটু বেশি বয়সি গিলবার্তো মোরা, কিন্তু নজরটা অবশ্যই কাড়ল রাউল জিমেনেজের সুযোগসন্ধানী পায়ের খেলাটা!

The House of the Dragon is promising to be another marvellous saga.

But this might just be the fairy tale that touches the heart with the simplicity that the soul always yearns for. In the world of fantasy, where magic and monsters prevail, the story of a simple aspirant is quite a welcome break.

A squire to a dead knight finds himself stranded with the sword of the deceased, three horses and a very uncertain future. Harbouring his cherished ambition of becoming a knight one day, Dunk, the squire, heads for a joust competition that will be hosting participating knights from near and far. But here he faces a tough challenge even before a game begins. The tournament was for knights only and Dunk was not a knight, let alone a famous one. He fabricated a claim of being a knight. But as this was not enough, he needed other knights of note to vouch for him.

Driven by hope but not so by despair, thus begins his interesting journey through the ranks of nobility, inside the tents of the lords and the commoner, traversing randomly, through the varied layers of the society, a queer journey that changed his life forever.

He is joined by the inconspicuous Egg, a lad of tender age, a character with a hint of mystery but a wish of squiring the knight in Dunk, a wish that he sticks to stubbornly, if not as a mule, at least as stubbornly as Dunk wished to be the knight of his dream.

Set about a century before the events of GoT, the story is of dreams to be conquered, friendships that are waged and courage against unforeseen odds.

Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell teams up as the most unlikely partners, Dunk and Egg respectively, in their quest for adventure, driven by passion and fuelled by hope. Created by Ira Parker and George R R Martin, the refreshing pilot season of the series is a celebration of life amid betrayals and tragic twists, which are, but orders of any day at all ages.

The Curious Case of Young Sherlock, Moriarty, Mycroft et al

Crafting a classic prequel to the investigative endeavours of Sherlock Holmes, the series delves into a mystery during his younger days that shaped his career. Created by Mathew Parkhill, Peter Harness and Guy Ritchie, the plot searches the origin of one of the most revered analytical minds in the history of detective fiction, interpolating back to the days when the investigator in Sherlock was young and maturing.

The main theme revolves around a haunting event that struck the Holmes family when Sherlock was just a boy that apparently intertwines with a curious case that Sherlock gets involved in concerning murder, missing persons and theft. Pulled out from the gaols by his brother Mycroft, after being thrown in due to his attempts at mastering the art of picking pockets (and returning) went awry, the young and fiercely intelligent Sherlock is obviously frustrated to find himself in the shoes of a scout at Oxford, with the best prospect being graduating to the post of a porter of the college. But that could never be a deterrent to the enterprising Sherlock as knowledge could be gained from quality books that Oxford could never be scarce of. Taking sneak peeks to whatever volumes that he could lay hold of, the young porter enriched his already inquisitive mind with the developments in the world that had evolved.

But as quite a few good things do not have a very happy finale, his adventure with knowledge was sure to suffer a major jolt!

There was a theft in the college. This followed a murder. Queerly, in both, Sherlock got himself involved, suspected........ and finally, once more, found himself behind the prison bars.

Enter Moriarty, a student at the college, a friend to Sherlock by their common interest for the uncommon and with intellect comparable and complement to his friend.

Surely the pen is mightier than the sword, but when two sharp enterprising souls joins force, the iron bars of the gaol are surely not enough!

But a break from the prison might free him, the accusation, however, remains.

So, thus starts the trek through the layers of lies against forces that are sinister yet sober, which  camouflages behind the unspeakably unethical!

The series is a very interesting search on the origin of the investigative mind that had mesmerised the fans of detective narratives through decades.

However, this pilot season of what could be a quite remarkable series, is enjoyable for a slightly different aspect. The search for the intellectual maturity combines with the subtle search for the characters that mature as well, much needed for completing the portraits that could be admired, in case of Sherlock, feared, in case of James Moriarty and become increasingly and happily intriguing, for Mycroft Holmes of the future!

ঠাকুমার ঝুলি: রহস্যের অলিগলি

শ্রাবন্তী এবার গোয়েন্দা চরিত্রে!

ঠাকুমাও বটে!

ঝুলি থেকে তো বেড়াল বেরোয়।

কিন্তু এই ঠাকুমার অন্য ঝুলি..... ঝুলি তো নয়, যেন বুদ্ধির ঝাঁপি!

তবে শুরুটা হয়েছিল বেড়াল দিয়েই।

হয়েছে কি, ঠাকুমা তো বিয়েবাড়ি গেছেন নিমন্ত্রণ রক্ষা করতে। নাতনীর বন্ধুর বিয়ে। কনে বিলেত ফেরত, নাতনীও তাই! কনে বিষ্ণুপুরের নামকরা চৌধুরীবাড়ির মেয়ে। কিন্তু বিয়েবাড়িতেই কনে খুন!

অবশ্য খুনটা কেউ বোঝেনি! শুধু ঠাকুমা পোস্টমর্টেমটা করতে বলল বলেই তো জানাটা গেল, অবশ্য কনের মায়েরও সায় ছিল! কিন্তু এই করেই তো ঠাকুমা বিপদটা ঘরে ডেকে আনলেন। আরেকটা খুন হলো!

হরি! ঠাকুমার বেড়াল। বেলা আর ফণ্টের মা! পোষ্যদের নাম রাখার ধরনেই স্পষ্ট যে এই ঠাকুমা যে সে ঠাকুমা নন। প্রিয় গায়ক, হ্যারি বেলাফন্তের নাম ভেঙে বিড়ালদের নাম! কে রাখে? গিরিজাবালা দেবী, মানে আমাদের ঠাকুমা রাখেন!

কিন্তু নামের কথা পরে হবে! এবার খুনের কথায় আসি!

ঠাকুমা তো খুন সন্দেহ করলেন বিয়েবাড়ির কাণ্ড দেখে। এদিকে খুনি গেল ঘাবড়ে। সে তখন ঠাকুমার আদরের হরিকে খুন করিয়ে তার মৃতদেহের সাথে একটা হুমকি চিরকুট পাঠাল। কিন্তু এইখানেতেই তার হয়ে গেল মস্ত ভুল।

সম্মুখ সমরে নেমে পড়লেন ঠাকুমা। অবশ্য ঠাকুমাই সম্মুখে, খুনি আড়ালে! কিন্তু ঠাকুমার যা পর্যবেক্ষণ ক্ষমতা, খুনি আর কতক্ষণ আড়ালে থাকবে? নিজের শ্বাশুড়ির কাছ থেকে গিরিজাবালা পেয়েছিলেন গোয়েন্দা সার্টিফিকেট, আর তিনি নিজে গোয়েন্দা লেখকের মা, যে ছেলে তার মায়ের আদলেই সৃষ্টি করেছিল তার গোয়েন্দা চরিত্র!

এমন মহিলাকে যে ঠকানো বেশ কঠিন! সাথে আবার অকুতোভয় নাতনী, আর তার সাথে এক ভালোমানুষ সাংবাদিক, উঠতি এবং বেশ অপেশাদার! স্থানীয় পুলিশ অফিসার তো আছেই, তবে ভরসা করার মতো নয় খুনিকে চিনে বের করতে!

এই শেষ চরিত্রটিকে নিয়ে এবার একটা কথা বলে ফেলি বরং এই ময়কায়। এই গোটা রহস্যেঘেরা ধটনাকে হালকা একটা মজার মোড়কে মুড়ে রাখার কৃতিত্বটা যেমন একাধারে সম্রাজ্ঞী বন্দোপাধ্যায়ের কলমের ও অয়ন চক্রবর্তীর পরিচালনার, ঠিক তেমনি যে কয়েকটি অভিনেতা এই মজাটাকে পুরো গল্পটাতে চারিয়ে দিতে সক্ষম হয়েছেন, তার মধ্যে অন্যতম হচ্ছে রাহুল অরুনোদয় ব্যানার্জি অভিনীত পুলিশ অফিসারের চরিত্রটি। কৌতুকে মোড়া এই অনবদ্য চরিত্রটিকে যখন দেখছিলাম, তার পরেপরেই শুনতে পেলাম যে এই ভদ্রলোককে আর নতুন কোনো চরিত্রে দেখতে পাবো না। মনটা খারাপ হয়ে গেছিল! রাহুল এই সিরিজটার মুখ্য চরিত্র না হলেও মুখ্য এক ভারসাম্য রক্ষা করে কাহিনীটিকে প্রাণবন্ত করে রেখেছিলেন! এই প্রাণোচ্ছল কৌতুকের মধ্যে দিয়েই তাঁকে মনে রাখব!

কৌতুকের আরেকটি স্তম্ভ হলো দেবরাজ ভট্টাচার্য! তবে শ্রাবন্তীও অসাধারণ। এত বয়স্কার অভিনয় খুব সহজ ছিল না কিন্তু! তাই এই চেষ্টাটা অবশ্যই প্রশংসনীয়, সাহসী এবং যথেষ্ট পরিণত! চরিত্রটাকে একইসঙ্গে বুদ্ধিদীপ্ত ও আকর্ষণীয় করে তুলেছেন অভিনেত্রী! সাথে অঙ্কিতা মাঝিও সুনিপুণ বিশেষ এক চরিত্রে আর দিব্যাণী মণ্ডলকেও মানিয়ে গিয়েছে ঠাকুমার নাতনি-cum-সহকারী হিসেবে। সহজ ছন্দে চলা এই কাহিনীটি তাই সকলের কাছেই লাগতে পারে বেশ উপভোগ্য!

আবার প্রলয় ২: প্রলয় বলে প্রলয়!

একটা সিরিজ দেখলাম বটে!

প্রলয় মুভিটা দেখেছিলাম, মন্দ নয়। মশলা ছিল, তবে চলে যায়। পলিটিকাল নেতাদের অসামাজিক বাঁদরামোর বিরুদ্ধে রুখে দাঁড়াচ্ছে এক সাধারণ মানুষ, আর তার পাশে এক সৎ নির্ভীক পুলিশ অফিসার, অনিমেষ দত্ত। সত্য ঘটনার উপর ভিত্তি করে গল্পটার শেষটাও সত্যি হলে খুশিই হতো অধিকাংশ মানুষ। যাইহোক, সিনেমাটা যথেষ্ট ঠিকঠাক ছিল।

তো এরপর এই মুভিটার উপর ভিত্তি করে এল আবার প্রলয় সিরিজ।

পুরো ফোকাস এবার অনিমেষ দত্তের উপর। স্পেশাল ব্রাঞ্চের দাপুটে এই অফিসার বেয়াদবী দেখলেই একেবারে নিজস্ব ট্রিটমেন্ট দিয়ে অপরাধীদের শায়েস্তা করেন। প্রথম সিজনেই বোঝা গেল যে এবার পুরোপুরি ঝাড়পিটের ব্যাপার হতে যাচ্ছে। তো তাই সই, মাথার উপর কম চাপ দিয়ে যদি টিভির পর্দায় একটু বজ্জাতদের ক্যালানো দেখতে পাওয়া যায়, ক্ষতি কি! তো দেখলাম এবং সত্যি বলতে কি, উপভোগই করলাম। মশলাটা এবার আরেকটু বেশি, তবে এবারও হজম হবে।

একরকম স্বাভাবিক তাগিদেই তাই দ্বিতীয় সিজনটাও দেখতে বসেছিলাম।

দেখেও ফেললাম।

তবে এবারেই বোধহয় ভুলটা করলাম!

খুব আশা করেছিলাম যে আমাদের জেনারেশনের একটা মিঠুনদা পেতে চলেছি। পেয়েও বোধহয় যেতাম! গুছিয়ে যেরকম ঝাড়পিট চলছিল। মানে, অনিমেষ দত্ত ওরফে শাশ্বত চ্যাটার্জি যেরকম গুণ্ডা দেখলেই রে রে করে রজনীকান্ত স্টাইলে অ্যাকশন দেখাচ্ছিলেন আর যা ডায়ালগ ঝাড়ছিলেন, তাতে মিঠুনদাই বোধহয় বাঙলা ছায়াছবি জগতে একমাত্র তুলনীয়। তবে ওই যে বলে না, অতি বাড় বেড়ো না, ঝড়ে পড়ে যাবে, তেমনি একদিকে যেরকম অনিমেষ দত্তের ঝড়ে গুণ্ডারা কুপোকাত হচ্ছিল, সিনেমাটা হচ্ছিল অতিরিক্ত 'সাধুভাষা' প্রয়োগের জন্য। মানে এই সিরিজটা দেখার পর এই ধারণাটা হওয়াই স্বাভাবিক যে ভিলেন হলে তো গাছতলা লেভেলের ভাষা বলবেই, উপরন্তু যত করিৎকর্মা পুলিশ অফিসার হবে, ততো তার মুখের ভাষাও 'সুমধুর' থেকে অতি 'সুমধুর' হওয়াটা দরকার হবে। যাই হোক, এই অনর্গল ও অকারণ ডায়ালগের একঘেয়েমি যেমন ধারাবাহিকটার একটা গোলমাল, এইটার প্রতি বোধহয় অতিরিক্ত জোর দেওয়ার ফলে, বাকি ব্যাপারগুলোর একটু বেশিমাত্রায় সরলীকরণ ঘটেছে। 

শুরু থেকে শেষ পর্যন্ত মশলার আধিক্য তো আছেই - এমনকি কম যাতে না লাগে, তাই বোধহয় সানরাইজ গুঁড়ো মশলাটাও ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে - কিন্তু তার সাথেও গোলমালও প্রচুর। দেখে তো ভয় হচ্ছে যে যেভাবে গয়নার দোকান লুঠকে প্রায় খেলনার দোকান লুঠের পর্যায় নামিয়ে দেখানো হয়েছে, কেউ না এসব ঘটনায় আবার অনুপ্রানিত হয়ে র‍্যাণ্ডম গয়নার দোকানে হামলা চালায়। সাথে আছে জেলের ভিতর ও বাইরেটা। এ যেন একেবারে ছ্যাঁচড়াদের স্বাধীন বিচরণক্ষেত্র - ভিতরে পুলিশ আসামীকে তদ্বির করছে - আর বাইরে - বাইরে পুলিশ কোথায়? দাগী আসামীকে আদালতে নিয়ে যাওয়া হচ্ছে, মিডিয়া নেই, লোকজন নেই, সুরক্ষা দেওয়ার জন্য একটা অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ পর্যন্ত নেই! কেন ভাই? যে যুগে জনতা পিঠ চুলকলে পর্যন্ত হোয়্যাটসঅ্যাপ হয়ে যায়, সেখানে সাংঘাতিক আসামীকে আদালতে নিয়ে যাওয়া হলে কি সমস্ত সার্ভার একসাথে ক্র্যাশ করে? তখন যেন সকলে ভি আর এস নিয়ে বাড়ীতে আই পি এল দেখছে! আর সিরিজ অনুযায়ী ভিলেনরা সামলাচ্ছে টেকনোলজি, সাথে পুলিস সামলাচ্ছে জেলের ভিতরের পার্টি! এই না হলে মশলা, গুঁড়ো করারও দরকার নেই, একেবারে গোটা গোটা ছেড়ে দিয়েছে রান্নায় এবার। তাই স্বাদটাও হয়েছে তথৈবচ। 

তাই অনিমেষ দত্ত, থুড়ি শাশ্বত চ্যাটার্জ্জীর চাপটাও এবার বেশি হয়েছে। পর্দার ওদিকের গুণ্ডা ও পর্দার এদিকের দর্শক, দুজনকেই সামলাতে হয়েছে। বলতেই হবে যে এই ভদ্রলোক হলেন এই সিজনটা পুরো সহ্য করার একমাত্র মোটিভেশন। অবশ্য সাথে আরো দুজন আছেন, খরাজ মুখার্জী ও সোহিনী সেনগুপ্ত, কিন্তু দুজনেই পুরোটাতে নেই বলে উল্লেখ করলাম না, তবে এই দুজনে কিন্তু প্রমাণ করে দিয়েছেন যে, রোল স্বল্পদৈর্ঘ যাই হোক, অভিনয়গুণে অল্পক্ষণের দৃশ্যও কিন্তু অতিমাত্রায় উপভোগ্য করে দেওয়া যায়। সাথে বরং বলব যে পরিচালক (রাজ চক্রবর্তী) গল্পতে যদি সোহিনী সেনগুপ্ত অভিনীত চরিত্রটিকে আরেকটু জায়গা দিতেন সামনে আসার, তাহলে বোধহয় অন্যরকম কিছু হতে পারত।

অতএব, এর পরেও যদি কোনো সিজন আসে, আমি আবার দেখতে বসব বোমার ঘায়েতেও প্রায় কিছু না হওয়া অনিমেষ 'শাশ্বত' দত্তকে কিন্তু সাথে আরেকটু কম তেজোদীপ্ত ডায়ালগ আর আরেকটু বেশি ঠাসবুনট প্লট থাকলে বোধহয় পুরোপুরি ব্যাপারটাকে উপভোগ করতে পারব।

Suspense and the hint of supernatural combine as Dr Joel Lazarus strives to find the real reason behind the recent death of his father and the the murder of his twin sister that happened in his younger age.

Traumatising him very early in his life, the murder of his sister had scarred Joel deeply and a closure to the incident was all that he could wish for. Alas, the murder remained a mystery as well as the murderer.

But as the forensic psychiatrist in Joel tried to cope with his trauma later in his life, the world once again seemed to unhinge around him with the sudden suicide of his father, Dr L, a practicing psychiatrist of repute and the inspiration for Joel. As the police tried to close his father's death as suicide, the son had his own apprehension. Added to this were dreaded revelations from queer quarters. There seemed to be links to the murder of his sister as well. But as Joel Lazarus approaches the truth by unveiling the layers of mist that surrounds, grim twists await ahead that takes a toll on the mind as well.

With a thrill that can only be felt as the series nears the finale, the disappointing slow pace of the episodes causes a mar to the interesting theme. However, the season offers a few interesting facets. The title corresponding to any particular episode is designed in a sequence of numbers of a college course, thus keeping the essence of psychological drama alive without a hint of what might happen but ensuring that they essentially unfold the subject much like the chapters of a book. The other aspect is the music by Sarah Warne and her directing 'The Windmills of your Mind' cover by Rumer that keeps the theme resonating throughout with the melody that hypnotises with a calmly poignant appeal.

Performing with the correct blend of craziness and character, is Pierce Brosnan as the mob boss, on the verge of senility, yet hungry for the ultimate control. Synching a notch too high, is the enticingly evil play of Helen Miren in a show of superb insentivity. Balancing the bitterness with his surprise humour, Emmet J Scanlan masks a cruel character in a brilliant show of comedy in every opportunity that arises. But, the centre stage is for Tom Hardy, with impeccable acting, confident gait and with the least predictable demeanour in all types of situations that effectively ushers a sense of foreboding and appeal, at every scene that he treads. Actually, the inherent heart of the series, the finale of the season has the character pinned in a cliffhanger event, essentially promising a required sequel that will again be much awaited with apprehension and eagerness!
