The being called Human

Defining humanity in its horrifyingly twisted form, this medicall thriller will send a chill down your spines. With the entire humanity reeling in the CoVid pandemic and aware of pharamaceutical phrases like drug trials and the likes, the time of release could be selected none the better than while the viweres are already wise about the necessities of drug trials for medicinal applications. But what they might not be aware of will be the fact that how the various phases of some trials are violated to keep the profits high without caring for the devastations that they cause. Humans are held inferior to guineapigs in these trials and the nexus of medical professionals, pharmaceutical magnates, political ministers try to gain at the cost of poor souls and vulnerable beings. Based on such a plot, the series will open the eyes of the general mass to a cartel consisting of professionals in the field of health care who will do anything but caring the health.

Dr Gauri Nath, a survivor of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy is a leading neuorologist of the country, heading her hospital Manthan and aspiring to build another centre of advancement of neuroscience and its applications. With a troubled past and a seemingly tragic family mishap, she secretly funds a neurological experiment on human subjects and also gives her nod to the trial of another drug, advertised as a miracle drug, bypassing norms and subjecting lives of the innocent volunteers to the stake. Driven by fury and hatred for a tormented and traumatic past, she is all set to achieve her objective, for which she is least bothered to sacrifice the human pawns. With raw ambition fuelling the hate, passion is used to manipulate the heart. Be it the love of mother or the adoration of the lover, each is methodically manipulated to guide the sacrificial beings to the alter of ambition that only devours mercilessly.

But with gradual rise in the body count, albeit scattered in various medical camps, queries keep coming from corners that wish to unveil the truth to unmask all that is murky. Will the seekers of justice be able to unmask the reality, or will they be absorbed in the vortex of power? You might love to watch this thrilling drama as it unfolds its twisted hues with deaths that keep on increasing, be that homicidal or suicidal!

With a pace that gains momentum with each episode, the subtle discontinuities in the finale will be a bit disappointing for the critical viewers who will find the curtains drawn a bit hurriedly with few convenient coincidences. But judging by the major theme, this is really a fantastic endeavour by Mozez Singh who co-directed this with the creator, Vipul Amrutlal Shah, serving as the eye opener to the general mass as to the dark sides of the medical and pharamaceutical fraternity. The questions that remain unanswered might be intentional for another follow up thriller.

Shefali Sharma is nothing short of outstanding in her characterization of the villainous doctor and sincerely speaking, after a quite long time, a memorable performance will be witnessed in a negative role, which leads with unfaltering impertinence. Accompanying her is Ram Kapoor, who is equally frightening as the coldly calculative partner, supporting the fearful scheme with calm composure. Kirti Kulhari plays the character of the main antagonist but her acting, though deftly performed but pales against the fierce protagonist she faces, worships and finally attempts to thwart. The ever natural Sandeep Kulkarni supports with his humble portraiture of employer with fierce loyalty till any conflict with the family man within creates doubts towards his duties.

The Disney+ Hotstar Specials original series will be gripping to watch and horrifying to imagination but will require a bit more seriousness to keep the loose threads tight in any follow up season of medical thrillers.
