ব্যোমকেশ: বন্দিনিবাসে

কিছু গল্প বারবার পড়তে ইচ্ছে করে। কিছু সিনেমা বারবার দেখতে ইচ্ছে করে। আবার কিছু গল্পের চিত্রায়িত রূপ যতবার যতভাবে দেখায়, বারবার দেখার জন্য মনটা মুখিয়ে থাকে। কিছু চরিত্রের ক্ষেত্রেও কথাটার অন্যথা হয় না। 'ব্যোমকেশ' চরিত্রটা আর 'চিড়িয়াখানা' কাহিনীটা সেই প্রকারের।

আমি কাহিনীটা পড়েছি, সত্যজিতের 'চিড়িয়াখানা' সিনেমা ও অঞ্জন দত্তের 'ব্যোমকেশ ও চিড়িয়াখানা' সিনেমা সিডিতে দেখেছি, বাসু চ্যাটার্জ্জীর 'চিড়িয়াঘর' সিরিয়াল টিভিতে দেখেছি। কাহিনীটা জানি, কে খুন হবে জানি, কে খুন করবে জানি, ব্যোমকেশ কোথায় ভুল করবে জানি, খুনী কখন ধরা পড়বে জানি, মোটিভ জানি, চরিত্রদের ধরন জানি, কিন্তু কিছুতেই পুরনো যেন হয় না রহস্যের এই অধ্যায়গুলো। তার উপর যদি পরিচালক হয় নতুন, মানে নতুন করে আবার পুরনো স্বাদ পাওয়ার যদি কোনো সুযোগ থাকে, তাহলে তো কথাই নেই! দেখতেই হবে!

তাই সুদীপ্ত রায়ের পরিচালনায় ব্যোমকেশের অষ্টম সিজন হইচই ওটিটি প্ল্যাটফর্মে দেখে ফেললাম। নামটা পিঁজরাপোল করা হয়েছে, প্রথম পর্বে ব্যোমকেশের উপস্থিতি নেই প্রায়, গলাটা শুধু শুনতে পাওয়া গেছে শেষ বেলায় প্রায় - দেখেশুনে খুব বিরক্ত লাগছিল। ভাবছিলাম এ আবার কি ধরণের আঁতলামি! কিন্তু গোয়েন্দা গল্পের আকর্ষণটা ছাড়তেও পারছিলাম না। পুরোটা দেখতে তো হবেই।

ভাগ্যিস! বাকিটা, যাকে বলে, জাস্ট ফাটাফাটি! গল্পটার মূল ভাবটা অপরিবর্তিত রেখে কিছু বদল করা হয়েছে। কিন্তু বদলগুলো মোটামুটি যুক্তিপূর্ণ। ব্যোমকেশরূপী অনির্বাণ ভটচাজ অসাধারন, বিজয়ের ভূমিকায় সৌমিক মৈত্রও নজর কাড়বে। রিদ্ধিমাও সাবলীলভাবে স্বাভাবিক সত্যবতীর চরিত্রে। ভাস্বর চ্যাটার্জ্জী এবার অজিত - নতুন মুখ, নতুন অভিব্যক্তি!

তবে যেটা আরেকটি চমক, সেটার আঁচ নাম দেখানোর সময় খেয়াল করলেই পাওয়া যাবে। অনির্বাণ ভট্টাচার্য এবার শুধু ব্যোমকেশ হিসেবে নয়, আর্ট ডিরেক্টর হিসেবেও বিদ্যমান। প্রমাণ প্রতিটা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দৃশ্যের শটের নির্বাচনে! দৃশ্যের মধ্যে দিয়েই গল্পটা পরিবেশন হয়েছে পরিমিত সংলাপের সাথে - এটাই তো শিল্প, এটাই তো আমার মতে সঠিক চলচ্চিত্রায়ণ! সাথে আছে শুভদীপ গুহর অসামান্য ওপেনিং স্কোর, যা 'এলিমেণ্টারি' ও 'শার্লক'-কে মনে করাতে পারে।

অনন্যসাধারন হতে পারত সিরিজটা। কিন্তু মনের মধ্যে অস্বস্তি যে রয়েই যাচ্ছে। নাম পাল্টে কাহিনী আত্মপ্রকাশ করলো, প্রসঙ্গ অনুযায়ী মানলাম (মানেটা অভিধান থেকে দেখতে হয়েছে)। গোয়েন্দা দেরিতে দৃশ্যে প্রবেশ করছে, সেটাও মানলাম। আরো অনেক কিছু মানলাম। কিন্তু তা বলে ব্যোমকেশের পেট খারাপের অসুবিধা গোটা পর্বগুলো জুড়ে দেখাতে হবে। একটু বেশি বাড়াবাড়ি হয়ে গেল না কি। ব্যোমকেশ মধ্যবিত্ত বাঙালী গোয়েন্দা। সেটা আমরা জানি। তার পেটখারাপ হলেও তাই, না হলেও তাই। সেটাকে এরকম পেটখারাপের মধ্যে দিয়ে দেখানোর দরকারটা ঠিক হজম হলো না, অবশ্য যদি এই প্রসঙ্গটাকে অনির্বাণের অভিনয়বোধের অসামান্যতা বোঝানোর ক্ষেত্রে ব্যবহৃত হয়ে থাকে, তাহলে আলাদা কথা! কিন্তু তাহলে যে ব্যপারটা অপ্রাসঙ্গিক! তাই ব্যোমকেশকে শৈল্পিক আঙ্গিকে দেখালেই চলবে, তার ব্যক্তিত্বকে অস্বাভাবিক অপ্রাসঙ্গিকতার প্রলেপ দেওয়াটা অনাবশ্যক।

Gaslight: Where suspense reigns while secrets overwhelm!

Saw Gaslight, streaming in Disney+ Hotstar. Apparently advertised as a Sara Ali Khan starrer spine chiller, undoubtedly Vikrant Massey steals the limelight. With his naturally naive looks, there can be no other artist better suited for the role than Massey with his deceptive demeanour. He is truly the best thing to watch in this film. Chitrangada Singh also plays her part well and looks convincing throughout, maintaining the veil of secrecy that the film demands.

Secrecy seems to be the theme of the story and the majority of the characters seem to harbour something, hidden from others. Strange happenings increase the suspense and twists in the plot keeps the interest growing.

A princess is invited home by her father, the king, whom she hates! But when the time comes for the arrival of the estranged daughter, the father goes missing! Reportedly on a business trip, his phone is unreachable and nobody seems to know where he has actually gone. Surprisingly, the residents of the royal palace, including the queen seems less bothered. The police, too, is apparently not too keen to investigate. The paraplegic princess, thus returning home, finds herself surrounded by mostly strangers and the stepmother, the queen, whom she very naturally despises. Her state of mind is even more shaken as she is haunted apparently by visions of her father in the mansion in the nights that not only questions her sanity but also brews doubts as to the whereabouts of the king, who had still remained untraceable!

Directed by Pavan Kirpalani, the mystery, which is brewed, is though old and almost predictive, would still have been enjoyable, if all the doubts raised, by the very nature of the storyline was clarified as the case is wrapped and the truth revealed.

But nonetheless, this Vikrant Massey powered show is augmented in suspense by the art decor of Apurva Bhagat and Ashish Naik and the touch ups by Avinash Pawar. So, the audience might immerse themselves in the haunting charm of royalty in ruins but will be advised to not wish for a wholesome entertainment!
